perception: one platform to perceive the surrounding
The perception platform was implemented in all demonstrator vehicles of the project. It increased the intelligence of interactIVe applications by providing a complete view of the environment, i.e. detecting the surrounding objects and also understanding and interpreting the situation.
Challenging use cases like adverse visibility and hard-to-judge pre-accident situations, e.g. head-on, were considered. An important output of the perception platform is the perception horizon.
The perception horizon is a common interface to all interactIVe applications and provides sensor information, digital map and communication data in an integrated manner. It is able to describe obstacles, moving objects, and other environment features in a clearly defined way.
